1962 Gibson ES-335

$17,500.00

Here we have a very special 1962 Gibson ES-335 that comes to us from a local player. Purchased in 1969 (likely making him the 2nd owner), this lovely example with block inlays was likely manufactured in mid-1962, as the change from dot inlays to blocks was in April of that year.  It’s lightweight at only 7lbs, 3oz and really comfortable to play! The nut width= 1.67″ and the neck profile is not the fat-monstrous club that you’d find on earlier examples- it is more likely akin to the classic 60’s shape we are most familiar with. Thickness at the 1st fret= .81″ and at the 12th-.88″. Frets appear original, and play well enough to convince us that there had been some level/crowns during its lifetime. There are no headstock breaks or repairs- BUT, as we tried to capture in the pictures- there is a very old/repaired crack (approx 7.5″ long) in the center of the back of the neck. This is stable and clean- the repair was present prior to ’69 and was bought this way from the owner that brings it to us. It is not open or flexing and 64 years has proven it to be a solid repair. And yes- the truss rod compartment is clean and turning freely. The original ‘keystone’ Kluson deluxe tuners are present. There was a Bigsby present that has been removed- so there are 2-holes filled on the top, and of course the mounting holes at the ‘Butt’ endpin side. As a result the stop tail is a replacement, as it would not have originally been present. Pickups are original PAF’s, and the neck cover appears to be a chrome replacement. Bridge pickup= 7.73k and the neck = 7.70k. Pots and harness all appear original and untouched, with at least the Bridge Volume pot being a Centralab dating to 1962. The ‘no-wire’ ABR is original with original nylon saddles- short one replacement.
