1925 Bacon & Day Silver Bell Tenor Banjo

We don’t usually list banjo’s- but so when we do we make sure it’s something really special. This 1925 Bacon & Day Silver Bell Tenor Banjo is just that! This is serial # 17525. A real piece of art & history, but also a great player! It’s clear that a piece like this was treated with a lot of respect & appreciation, the detail & inlay work is unmatched. For those who would be interested, this is a Silver Bell No. 5 (it seems the higher the number designation, the more decorative the instrument.)

This example appears to be largely original- although there is some brass hardware included in the case that would imply there have been some functional replacements. The back of the neck (pictured) is hand carved and the inlay work throughout is absolute perfection. Also included is the original contract/bill of sale- dating to 1926! The documents themselves (now 100 years old) are very clean and would indicate in its day this was a $400 instrument!
