Produced in small numbers in Japan- under the direction & license of George Lowden by S. Yairi, this 80’s Lowden S-5 in a shape we might describe as a compact Jumbo, is a real canon. Somewhat collectible/coveted, this example has a very nicely aged cedar top with solid mahogany back/sides. This has aged really well and is not only a natural looking relic, but exhibits a very round/dry woody tone that would be suitable for a variety of style. Everything on it is original- including the frets which are very tall and clean, only showing very light wear. No cracks, but the top shows some battle scars. Nut width= 1.77″, and the neck shape is a Big “C” with thickness measuring at the 1st fret= .89″ and at the 9th=1.00″. There is a volute. The fingerboard and bridge are both rosewood. No neck reset needed- there is plenty of saddle.
