1917 Gibson Style O

$5,250.00

A real piece of Gibson history! This 1917 Gibson Style O is in very excellent condition for its age, and aside from a few minor changes all original. Difficult to pinpoint the year, so there is a estimating going on if we’re being honest- they run a range from about 1908 to 1923 but we have identified similar examples with serials within a very close range defined as 1917. Frets are likely replacements and vintage correct size, and it appears that many years ago the neck was likely reset. Action is very low and comfortable, and although there is no adjustable truss-rod yet during this era, it’s a significant piece of wood that seems to be holding up very well, exhibiting some relief. Neck profile is a very large “V” profile (as is typical for the era), measuring 1.10″ deep at the 1st fret. Nut is wide also, 1.77″. Fingerboard is ebony, and the pickguard appears to be original, and the ebony bridge also appears to be original. Not visible to the naked eye, under blacklight it would appear there was some likely overspray on the back of the neck. Tailpiece is an interesting “Pin” style, and this tailpiece is bakelite and with the exception of 2-pins all original and correct (the original 2 pins are also included). There is a small section of binding at the point of the cutaway (lower bought, opposite the scroll) that appears to have been reparied/replaced.
